As one can't change the selection in the filter editors, and fix the problem, I turned them off.

So just turn of the filter header.

And then I added a toolstrip above my listbox, aligned it as needed, added textitem forms for each column and an icon button at the end.

Looks almost the same, but now I have full control.

rolled our own

I turned off filters for the listgrid. And put some textboxes above the list grid. And then handle the entry into the textbox with a timer that fires a fetch after a given time.

Works great!!
