FormItem: "disabled" or "readOnly"??

Internet Explorer can't change the font color when FormItem.disable() is invoked.
In the future, is it possible to change form item attribute "readOnly" instead of "disabled" when disable() invoked.

we know it is typical IE issue, I just want to know.
Is there any way to resolve it in SmartGWT ?
