Grid with Date field gets IE Stack Overflow

We have a grid which contains a date field. Whenever the user edits the textbox for the date and enters an incorrect date (such as random characters like "asdfasdf") and then clicks away from the date field, a Stack Overflow error is thrown in IE.

Unfortunately, I could not reproduce this in the Showcase... any idea why this would happen?

Also, we are using SmartGWT 2.1. I just realized that maybe this was an issue fixed in SmartGWT 2.2? (This would explain why I cannot reproduce the issue.)
