setFilterEditorCriteria without function

Does ListGrid.setFilterEditorCriteria serve any purpose?
I tried to programmatically set Criteria in a ListGrid FilterEditor but was unable to set the simplest criteria using this method.

It works just fine. Are you doing before or after the draw?
