What is testFile in DS?

Hi,

it's kind of a dump question, but what are these testfiles in Datasources? And where can I find something to read on?

I've searched the quickstart guide, the forum and the samples. Of course, test files get named there, but I want some short explanation of their benefits.

Please just give me a hint, where to look for information. Thank you!
