What browsers does SmartGWT support?

I found the list of supported browsers by SmartClient , that is described in SmartClient Release note.
But I couldn't find the list of supported browsers by SmartGWT.
So is there any description about supported browsers by SmartGWT, not SmartClient?

SmartClient and SmartGWT supports the following web browsers:

Netscape 7.2 (Windows/MacOS)
Mozilla 1.4-1.8 (Windows/MacOS/Linux)
Firefox 1.0-3.0 (Windows/MacOS/Linux)
Safari 1.2-3.1 (MacOS/Beta: Windows)
Opera Beta: 9.x (Beta: Windows/MacOS/Linux)

Does that mean, for example, official version of IE8 or Opera is not supported?
(Why does it say Beta?)

That's an old list. It's now:

Internet Explorer 6.0-8.0 (Windows)
Firefox 2.0-3.x (Windows/MacOS/Linux)
Safari 3-5 (MacOS/Windows)
Chrome 5-8 (MacOS/Windows)
Opera: 9-10 (Windows)

Note that with most older browsers that have been on the list before (eg Firefox 1.5) there may be no specific known issues, but we don't test them anymore due to their vanishingly small market share. However if you have a support plan and need support for a specific older browser, that can be arranged.

Yes - would very much like to get the official word on this as well. The only list I have found seems to be very outdated. I'm getting pushback from leadership on browser choices based on the currently available list of browsers.

The important thing is to decide what *you* want to support. Generally this should be a subset of what we support.

There is no reason why a given internal corporate app should support anything other than the standardized corporate browsers.

If you have a customer-facing app, our advice is to officially advertise support for only the most recent version of most browsers, plus some older versions of IE, and the extended support releases of Firefox. You might support one older version of Safari on MacOS to support older MacOS releases; consider nixing Windows Safari which is very rare. There is little reason for most apps to officially support Opera.

Doing this will simplify supporting your app. There's no reason to accept bug reports on fringe browsers even if you are just going to forward them on to Isomorphic; this still wastes your time. And you can always agree to fix something that comes up for an important customer, even if it's a browser you don't support.

That said, we still accept bugs reproducible on the following browsers:
1. IE back to IE6
2. Firefox 3.6, 10.x+ (Windows, Mac, Linux)
3. Safari back to 4.0 (Mac, Windows)
4. Chrome back to 15.0 (Windows, Mac)
5. Opera from 9.0 (Windows)

Mobile:
1. Mobile Safari on iOS 4+
2. Android Browser on Android 3.2+

Older and small market share browsers get a lot less testing.

If the Chrome/Firefox numbers surprise you, take a look at the charts of what versions exist in general usage.

Yes - we obviously will only support a subset of what SmartGwt officially supports but without that list, it was hard to tell them what we supported. :)

From this, we can make an informed decision about which ones we'll support.

Yes, the stance we've taken is as follows:

1) IE 8, IE9
2) Firefox 10 ESR
3) Chrome

IE8 works, but the experience is degraded. If you want the best experience and have to use IE8, we recommend our clients install Google Chrome Frame.
