Autofit in TreeGrid without datasource doesn't work

I have a tree grid with some arb. columns and rows. The data is set via setData() of the tree grid.

Doing a autoFitFields() after loading the data doesn't do anything.

I use the same/similar technique on a tree with a datasource were it works just fine.

Anything I'm missing?
Is there a limitation of the auto fit mechanism?
