Darn, I'm on SmartGWT 3.1p v8.3p_2013-02-13/Pro Deployment (built 2013-02-13) which should include this fix, but I have the same issue. The grid header is shown as sorted, but the data is not. When I comment the call to setGroupByField, the sorting works fine.

I'll try again later on a more recent nightly build.
