Right, so again, your code in the getters appears to be throwing a NullPointerException. Try putting a try..catch block into the getter methods to find out why it's crashing.

Currently evaluating the power edition and automatich joins would be a very desired feature and came accross this thread. Can't find any documentation/sample on it however. Is it included in 3.0?

The feature is DataSourceField.includeFrom and there are samples in the EE Showcase for each built-in DataSource type (named Field Include and Dynamic Field Include).
