Follow up

After some time, we are revisiting this problem for our client. They are currently on release SC_SNAPSHOT-2011-08-02/PowerEdition Deployment (built 2011-08-02), and cannot migrate forward at the moment. Is it possible to have the fix applied as a patch to this build?

You should just install the latest 8.2p build. It has only fixes relative the version you're currently using. Installing this build is simpler than installation of a separate patch.
