I think I've discovered a bug with SmartGWT ComboxBoxItem on iPad. Try visiting the Showcase http://www.smartclient.com/smartgwt/showcase/#styled_combobox_category with an iPad. On the first sample (A simple ComboBoxItem), tap the drop down button. The focus will shift to the Textbox item momentarily. This causes the iPad Keyboard to pop up and down. Even though it happens in a split second, its very noticeable. Thanks.
