Is it necessary to somehow "delete" a channel when it is not longer needed? And how?
If not, wouldn't it cause a memory leak to occur after some time and a lot of channels created ?

No; in both our own LocalMessageDispatcher implementation and in typical JMS implementation, a channel basically disappears when there are no subscribers and no one broadcasting messages to it.
