Is it possible to get a textarea in a form to span multiple rows?

Please see attached image. The rightmost field is a textarea with rowspan 2. However, the text box does not expand to the bottom. If i manually set height, the second leftmost field follows it downwards.

I would like it to look in the screenshot but with the textarea all the way down. Is this at all possible?

Yes, and the technique is as you describe, plus adding height:"*" to the rowSpanning TextAreaItem.
