Combo: highlighted value different from entered value

Hi,
I noticed that the combobox item which is backed by a valuemap does not highlight the current entered value but always the value in the top of the combobox.

This seems different than if the combobox is backed by a datasource, in which case the entered value is highlighted. Although even with the combo backed by the datasource I see different behavior, if the focus has left the form/window and then the drop-down button is clicked then the top-item is highlighted.

I have tested this both on 7 and the nightly build of 8 december 2010.

Is there a description on what can be/should be expected to be highlighted in the picklist in different situation? Or are there (hidden) properties I can set to control this behavior?

The highlight basically shows you what value is going to be selected if you just hit enter or tab (or, when mousing over the list, you click).
