standalone datasource and values clause

I've got an add operation with a DMI and a <values> clause which works perfectly, but I've just noticed that it's ignored in a 'standalone' configuration with the same dataSource.
Is it intended behaviour or is it a bug?

<values> is considered a security constraint, so like Declarative Security, it is bypassed for server-initiated requests - which is basically *all* requests in standalone usage.
