Message Passing Interface Best Practice

Hi,

My Current Situation

I have two applications

  1. A SmartGWTEE application that has a server-side servlet to GET and POST requests
  2. A Java application that contains all my business logic to process data and add it into a database

Question

I would like to know what the best practises are in terms of passing data between these two applications. Should I implement a servlet in the Java application to send data out to my SmartGWTEE servlet? Or should my SMARTGWTEE application query the database?

Cheers.

When you build an application with SmartGWT EE, it automatically provides a REST interface to all of your DataSources for use by third-party technologies such as a Java Swing application - this is covered in the QuickStart Guide (search for RestHandler).

So, best practice is typically to just build the SmartGWT EE application normally, then have any standalone Java applications contact the RestHandler provided by SmartGWT EE.
