setting style on formItem not working

I have a formItem like so

 final SelectItem exchangeListItem = new SelectItem();
        exchangeListItem.setTitle("ExchangIt");
        exchangeListItem.setTitleStyle("chartSelectItemOrange");

I want to change the title colour so I set that in my skin_style.css this is a copy of the graphite skin.

/* Charts to show bloomberg orange */
.chartSelectItemOrange {
    font-family:Arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px;
    color:#EC8518;
}

When I load the application, the form title is not orange. Am I missing something?

Sorry even calling setCellStyle does not seem to change the background colour for a selectItem or textItem. What gives?
