Using 'em' unit to specify css styles

Hi, is it possible to specify Label dimensions using ‘em’ units. I am specifying styles in a css file (shown below) and it seems to take every other style except width and height - if font size works with the ‘em’ unit not sure why width and height won’t. I am not setting dimensions in the code that override the style (setAutoFit and setAutoHeight are false). Is there a way to get this to work? Thanks.

.labelDim {
	width:2em;
	height:1em;
	font-size: 1em;
	border-style: solid;
	border-width: 1px;
	border-color:#0000FF;
}
